Vashka
(Vazhka), a river in the Komi SSR and Arkhangel’sk Oblast, RSFSR, left tributary of the Mezen’. Length, 605 km; area of basin, 21,000 sq km. It rises in the swamps of the Mezen-Severnaia Dvina watershed. There are about 900 lakes in its basin. The river forms many meanders and oxbows. It is fed by snow and rain. The average annual water flow near the village of Reshchel ’skaia is 184 cu m per second. The Vashka freezes in late October, and the ice breaks in early May. The river is navigable to the landing at Ust’-Vacherga.
