Tikhaia Sosna

 

a river in Belgorod and Voronezh oblasts, RSFSR; a right tributary of the Don. The Tikhaia Sosna measures 161 km in length and drains an area of 4,350 sq km. It originates on and flows through the Middle Russian Upland. The river is fed primarily by snow. High water is in March and April. The mean flow rate 87 km from the mouth is 5.9 cu m per sec. The maximum flow rate is 590 cu m per sec, and the minimum, 0.02 cu m per sec. The cities of Alekseevka and Ostrogozhsk are located on the Tikhaia Sosna.
