Bernhard Bästlein


Bästlein, Bernhard

 

Born Dec. 3, 1894, in Hamburg; died Sept. 18, 1944, in Brandenburg. German communist. One of the leaders of the struggle against the fascist dictatorship.

Bästlein led the resistance movement in Hamburg from 1941. He was arrested in the fall of 1942. He escaped from prison and participated actively in the work of A. Saefkow’s antifascist organization in Berlin. He was executed by the Hitlerites.
