A therapeutic system based on a classification of foods and herbs into 4 doshas:
• Energy (virya);
• Taste (rasa);
• Post-digestive effect (vipaka); and
• Potency (vipaka).
Specific herbs are used to increase or decrease doshas—kapha, pitta and vata.
