Rutka

a river in the Mari ASSR and Kirov Oblast, RSFSR, a left tributary of the Volga. The Rutka is 153 km long and drains an area of 1,950 sq km. It is fed primarily by snow. The high-water period is in April and May. The mean flow rate measured 51 km from the mouth is 7.32 cu m per sec. The river freezes in November or early December, and the ice breaks up in April. The Rutka is used for floating timber.
