Vasilii Doenin

Born Sept. 11 (24), 1909, in Yalta. Soviet statesman. Member of the CPSU since 1940.

The son of an office worker, Doenin worked in plants in Vladivostok from 1927 to 1930. Upon graduation from the Far East Polytechnic Institute in 1931, he worked as an engineer in the Orgmetall Trust. In 1934 he became an engineer and shop foreman at the Likhachev Automobile Plant in Moscow. From 1944 to 1948, Doenin was first the director of the central board in the People’s Commissariat of Medium Machine Building and then the director of the Ministry of Automobile and Tractor Machine Building. During the following two years, Doenin served as director of the Moscow Plant of Compact Automobiles. From 1950 to 1962 he held high posts in the Ministry of Automobile and Tractor Industries and the Ministry of Machine Building. Doenin was also the vice chairman of the Moscow City Economic Council. He subsequently (1963-65) served as first vice chairman of the Economic Council of the RSFSR, chairman of the Moscow City Economic Council, vice chairman of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR, and chairman of the Economic Council of the RSFSR. In 1965, Doenin was appointed the minister of machine building for light industry and the food industry and household appliances of the USSR. He was elected a candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU at the Twenty-third (1966) and Twenty-fourth (1971) Congresses of the party and was a deputy to the Seventh and Ninth Supreme Soviets. Doenin has been awarded two Orders of Lenin, three other orders, and various medals.
