Viktor Afanasev

Afanas’ev, Viktor Grigor’evich

 

Born Nov. 18, 1922, in the village of Aktamysh, Aktamysh Raion, Tatar ASSR. Soviet philosopher. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1972). Member of the CPSU from 1943.

From 1940 to 1953, Afanas’ev was in the Soviet Army. He graduated from the correspondence division of the Pedagogical Institute of Chita in 1950. Beginning in 1953, he taught philosophy and scientific communism at the Pedagogical Institute of Cheliabinsk and subsequently at the Academy of Social Sciences of the Central Committee of the CPSU. He was deputy editor in chief of the newspaper Pravda from 1968 to 1974, and editor in chief of the journal Kommunist from 1974 to 1976. He was named editor in chief of Pravda in 1976. Afanas’ev’s chief works are on scientific communism, management, and philosophical issues in biology.

Afanas’ev was a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU from 1976. He was awarded the Order of the October Revolution, two other orders, and various medals.
