Vasilii Koval

Koval’, Vasilii Petrovich

(pseudonym of V. P. Kovalev). Born Aug. 4(17), 1907, in the village of Sava, in present-day Gorki Raion, Mogilev Oblast; died Oct. 29, 1937. Soviet Byelorussian writer.

Koval’ is the author of short-story collections about the new Soviet countryside, including How They Called the Spring (1927), At the Pen (1928), and The Well (1929), and the children’s novella San’ka, the Bugler (1936). Koval’ is a representative of “lyrical” prose in Byelorussian literature of the 1920’s and 1930’s.
