Underlying Service Underlying ServiceThe issues of a periodical scheduled to be sent to a subscriber after his/her current subscription expires. That is, the underlying service includes renewals and gift subscriptions that have been paid for but that have not been sent because the current subscription has not run out. For example, if one renews a newspaper subscription for a year starting June 1, the underlying service includes all issues scheduled to be sent to that subscriber after June 1. A high underlying service rate indicates that a periodical is in strong financial shape and has engaged in effective marketing (and/or simply has a superior product). |
