Pronchishchev Ridge

Pronchishchev Ridge

 

an upland in the northwestern Yakut ASSR, extending from the Anabar Gulf of the Laptev Sea in the west to the mouth of the Olenek River in the east. The highest elevation is 315 m. The ridge rises sharply above a low-lying plain adjacent to the Pronchishchev Coast (Laptev Sea) and slopes gently to the Uele River valley. Composed primarily of sandstone, it is covered with moss and lichen vegetation and, in places, with rocky tundra. The ridge was named in honor of V. V. Pronchishchev in 1892–93 by an expedition of E. V. Toll’.
