Belaia Kholunitsa

 

a city (until 1965, a settlement) and administrative center of Belokholunitsa Raion, Kirov Oblast, RSFSR. It is situated on the Belaia Kholunitsa River (a tributary of the Viatka), 82 km northeast of the city of Kirov and 48 km from the Slobodskoe railroad station. Population, 11,900 (1968). In 1764 an iron works, now a machine-building plant, was built in Belaia Kholunitsa. The city has a woodworking industry and food enterprises.


Belaia Kholunitsa

 

a river in Kirov Oblast, in the RSFSR; a left tributary of the Viatka. It is 160 km long and drains a basin of 2,800 sq km. It rises in the west of the Verkhniaia Kama Plateau and flows across an undulating plain. The Belaia Kholunitsa is fed primarily by snow. It freezes in November and opens up again in April. Logs can be floated down the river. The city of Belaia Kholunitsa is located on it.
