Peter Alma

Alma, Peter

(also Petrus Alma). Born Jan. 18, 1886, in Medan, on the island of Sumatra. Dutch painter and graphic artist.

Alma is a realist and has linked his creative work with the labor movement, creating examples of revolutionary graphic art which are clear in both content and form (for instance, the line engravings V. I. Lenin, Uprising, and Capitalism). He has also done murals for public buildings (a university in 1951 and a telephone exchange in 1957, both in Amsterdam). In general, Alma’s works are dedicated to the themes of labor and the life of the people.
