Petr Petrovich Rumiantsev

Born 1870; died 1925. Figure in the Russian revolutionary movement.

A Social Democrat from the early 1890’s, Rumiantsev was active in party work in St. Petersburg and other cities of Russia. He maintained contact with the editorial board of Iskra. He was a Bolshevik from the time of the Second Congress of the RSDLP in 1903. He was a member of the Bureau of the Committees of the Majority. In 1905 he was a delegate to the Third Congress of the RSDLP. In June 1905 he was co-opted to the Russian Bureau of the Central Committee of the RSDLP. Rumiantsev was a member of the editorial staff of the Bolshevik newspaper Novaia zhizn’ (1905) and of the journal Vestnik zhizni (1906–07). He was a delegate to the First Conference of the RSDLP in Tammerfors in December 1905 and to the Fourth (Unity) Congress of the RSDLP in 1906.

During the years of reaction between 1907 and 1910, Rumiantsev withdrew from political activity and worked abroad as a statistician. He died in Berlin.
