Phenological Map

a topical geographic map that shows the seasonal occurrence of particular natural phenomena. Phenological maps are made by drawing isophenes. Operational phenological maps represent the natural processes of the current year, for example, changes in the snowcover or the flowering of plants. They are distinguished from phenoclimatic maps, which show mean changes occurring over many years, for example, seasonal changes in precipitation and temperature.

Many phenological maps are important for various sectors of the economy, such as agriculture, forestry, and hunting. They are usually prepared using data compiled at special observation posts. Data compiled by telemetry are also used. Phenological maps are often included in comprehensive or specialized geographic atlases.
