Bystrianskii, Vadim Aleksandrovich

Born May 1 (13), 1886, in St. Petersburg; died Dec. 13, 1940, in Moscow. Soviet Party figure, historian, and publicist; doctor of history. Member of the Communist Party from 1907. Studied at the University of St. Petersburg.

Bystrianskii conducted Party work in St. Petersburg during 1907-09; he was arrested and spent close to eight years in prison and exile. After the February Revolution of 1917 he worked in the Kiev committee of the RSDLP (Bolshevik) and on the Bolshevik newspaper Zvezda in Ekaterinoslav. He participated in the preparation and execution of the October Revolution of 1917 in Petrograd. At the Second All-Russian Congress of Soviets he was elected a member of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee (VTsIK). In October 1917 he joined the editorial board of Izvestila VtsIK. He was a member of the editorial board of Petrogradskaia pravda during 1918-22. After 1922 he taught and did scholarly work in Leningrad.

Bystrianskii was a member of the editorial board of Pravda from September 1940 until the end of his life. He was a delegate to the Eighth (1919), Fifteenth (1927), and Six-teenth (1930) Party Congresses. Bystrianskii is the author of books, brochures, and articles on the theory of Marxism-Leninism and the history of the revolutionary movement and the Communist Party.
