Remezov, Semen Ul’ianovich

 

Born 1642; died after 1720. Russian cartographer, geographer, and specialist in Siberian history.

From 1683 to 1710, Remezov compiled maps and descriptions of the city of Tobol’sk and the Tobol’sk District. Reme-zov’s most important work was the manuscript “Siberian Sketchbook” (1699–1701), the first Russian geographic atlas, comprising 23 large maps. The atlas was outstanding for the detail and abundance of its information. It summarized all available geographic material of that time.
