Tbilisi Mathematics Institute

 

(full name, A. M. Razmadze Tbilisi Mathematics Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Georgian SSR), a research institute dealing with theoretical and applied mathematics. Founded in 1933 as part of the University of Tbilisi, the institute was placed under the jurisdiction of the Georgian branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1935. The institute became part of the Academy of Sciences of the Georgian SSR when the academy was organized in 1941. Between 1941 and 1976 the institute was headed by N. I. Muskhelishvili.

The Tbilisi Mathematics Institute carries out research on important problems in topology, number theory, the theory of functions, the theory of differential and integral equations, approximation, and the mathematical theory of elasticity. The institute has a graduate program and publishes Trudy. In 1967 the institute was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
