Shokalskii Island

(until 1926, Agnessa), an island in the Kara Sea, situated at the entrance to Ob’ Bay, Tiumen’ Oblast, RSFSR. Shokal’skii Island measures approximately 30 km in length and 20 km in width. It has a flat surface with elevations to 27 m. There is tundra vegetation. The island was named in honor of Iu. M. Shokal’skii.
