Akhmad Iugnaki

 

(full name Akhmad ibn Makhmud Iugnaki). Dates of birth and death unknown. Uzbek poet of the 12th century.

Akhmad Iugnaki’s long poem Gift of Truths has been preserved in two manuscripts, written in two scripts—Uighur and Arabic. It was first published in Istanbul in 1915–16. The poem consists of 506 lines of didactic verse, written in the aruz meter. Its precepts abound in figurative comparisons and metaphors, and they contain parables and proverbs. Akhmad Iugnaki especially valued literature and scholarship.
