Puerto Ordaz

 

a city in eastern Venezuela, in the state of Bolivar. Population, 36,600 (1971). A port on the Orinoco River, Puerto Ordaz is situated at the Orinoco’s confluence with the Caroni River, which is navigable for large seagoing vessels. It exports iron ore, mainly to the USA, from the country’s new mining and metallurgical industrial region in the Guiana Highlands. The city is part of the Santo Tomé de Guayana agglomeration.
