Voennyi Zhurnal

Voennyi Zhurnal

(Military Journal), the name of three Russian journals in the 19th century, dealing with questions of military theory and history. They were published in St. Petersburg as follows.

(1) During the period 1810-11 published monthly, at first as a private publication, then by the War Ministry; in all, 24 issues came out.

(2) In the years 1817-19 published monthly by the Guards Staff; for the most part, the journal discussed questions dealing with the history of the Patriotic War of 1812 and the foreign campaigns of 1813-14.

(3) During the years 1827-59 published bimonthly by the Military Scholarship Committee; at first the journal printed only works by committee members; it improved considerably starting in 1846, when its editor, General A. P. Bolotov, attracted the best military writers of that period.
