Verkhne-Kolyma Upland

an upland in northeastern Asia, in the basin of the Kolyma River, between the Tas-Kystabyt and the Cherskii mountain ranges and their southern foothills, in Magadan Oblast, RSFSR. Prevailing altitudes are from 1,300 to 2,000 m. The upland consists of not very high mountain massifs and low flat-topped ridges. The summits of the mountains are cupola shaped. The southeastern section is characterized by steep slopes and by deep river valleys. The upland consists of Permian and Triassic slates and sandstones. The Aian-Iuriakh, Berelekh, and other rivers cross the area. The river valleys and the more gentle slopes are covered with sparse forests of larch and low cedar undergrowth. At altitudes from 1,200 to 1,800 m the slopes are covered with low bushy mountain tundra. There are mineral springs and deposits of gold and tin.
