Soviet-Indonesian Agreements

Diplomatic relations between the USSR and Indonesia were established on Feb. 3, 1950. The two countries concluded a trade agreement (Aug. 12, 1956), two general agreements on economic and technical cooperation (Sept. 15, 1956, and Feb. 28, 1960), and an agreement on cultural cooperation (Feb. 28, 1960). In addition, agreements were concluded on the construction of a hospital as a gift to the government and people of Indonesia (Oct. 14, 1960), on air transportation (Nov. 2, 1961), on telegraph and telephone communications (Dec. 21, 1961), on cooperation in radio and television broadcasting (Nov. 10, 1962), and on cooperation in fishing (July 15, 1964).

The countries signed a protocol providing for the payment of Indonesia’s debts on credit, among other economic matters (Nov. 22, 1966). Another protocol on economic relations was signed on Aug. 27, 1970, providing for the discharge of debts over a 30-year period. Subsequently the countries signed another trade agreement (Mar. 23, 1974) and another agreement on economic and technical cooperation (Dec. 26, 1974).

In a joint statement of Dec. 27, 1974, the two countries confirmed a desire to promote the development of all-around cooperation between the USSR and Indonesia.
