To burn a card
| (Casino Gambling) | to take one or more cards from the top of the deck and put it in the discard pile, without using it in the deal. This practise is used to reduce the likelihood that a player can discern the value of any cards dealt, by viewing the top card (which may be marked) before the deal. Used especialy in Blackjack. |
