Pityogenes Chalcographus
Pityogenes Chalcographus
a beetle of the family Scolytidae (bark beetles). The body is elongated (2–2.9 mm), black-brown, and glossy. It is distributed in Europe and Asia (Siberia); in the north it produces one generation a year, in Middle Europe, two. The beetle develops in the thin bark and sapwood of young, slender, and enfeebled conifers (predominantly spruce). Control measures include thinning forest plantings, felling beetle-infested trees, and. during the beetles’ flying period, setting out “trap” trees and treating plantings with chlororganic and phosphororganic insecticides.
