Rare disorders which may be hereditary or acquired and which features disordered iron metabolism. Clinically, they resemble other anaemias but treatment with iron makes things worse. Transfusion with red cell concentrates may be necessary. Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is sometimes effective.
