Ability to feel hot or cold; sensitivity to variations in temperature.Thermenol Thermenol a soft magnetic iron-base alloy containing 15–16 percent Al and 3.3 percent Mo. Developed in the United States during the mid-1950’s, Thermenol typically has an initial magnetic permeability of up to 7,000, a maximum magnetic permeability of up to 130,000, and a coercive force of 1.0–1.5 amperes per m. The alloy is characterized by its high resistivity [(1.5–1.6) × 10–6 ohm·m], low density (~6,500 kg/m3), resistance to corrosion, and strength at high temperatures. Articles being made from Thermenol are subjected to a rapid cooling from a temperature of 600°C in order to inhibit the process of structural ordering that impairs the magnetic properties. sense [sens] 1. a faculty by which the conditions or properties of things are perceived. Five major senses were traditionally considered: vision, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. In addition, equilibrium, hunger, thirst, malaise, pain, and other types of senses have been distinguished. The operation of all senses involves the reception of stimuli by sense organs, each of which is sensitive to a particular kind of stimulus. The eyes are sensitive to light; the ears, to sound; the olfactory organs, to odor; and the taste buds, to taste. Various sense organs of the skin and other tissues are sensitive to touch, pain, temperature, and other sensations. On receiving stimuli, the sense organ translates them into nerve impulses that are transmitted along the sensory nerves to the brain. In the cerebral cortex, the impulses are interpreted, or perceived, as sensations. The brain associates them with other information, acts upon them, and stores them as memory.
