Tekke
Tekke
a dervish monastery in Turkey. Tekkes were hotbeds of fanaticism and superstition. During the Kemalist Revolution (1919–23) and in the first years of the bourgeois Republic of Turkey, they became centers for reactionary conspiracy. With the abolition of dervish orders in Turkey in 1925, the tekkes were closed and their property was confiscated. Afterward, however, some tekkes were restored.
