Plotnikov, Kirill Nikanorovich

Born May 11 (24), 1907, in Kursk. Soviet economist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1960). Member of the CPSU since 1940.

Plotnikov graduated from the Moscow Institute of Finance Economics in 1930 and began his teaching and research activities in 1931. He served as permanent representative of the USSR to the UN Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East from 1955 to 1959 and as director of the Institute of Economics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR from 1959 to 1965. Between 1965 and 1970 he was deputy academician-secretary of the Division of Economics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and a section head at the Institute of the Economics of the World Socialist System of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In 1970, Plotnikov became head of a subdepartment at the S. Ord-zhonikidze Moscow Institute of Engineering Economics.

Plotnikov’s chief works deal with the political economy of socialism and with such concrete issues of the Soviet economy as the theory of the state budget; the relationship between the state budget and national income and expanded socialist reproduction; and the theory of money and money circulation, credit, price formation, and khozraschet (profit-and-loss accounting). Plotnikov has been awarded three orders and various medals.
