Ulan-Burgasy

 

a mountain range in western Transbaikalia, Buriat ASSR. Extending from the southwest to the northeast, the Ulan-Burgasy Range is situated between the Turka and Kurba rivers. It is about 200 km long and has average elevations of 1,400-1,800 m; the highest elevation is 2,049 m, at Mount Khurkhag. The range is composed of ancient metamorphic rocks, with intrusions of granite. Middle altitude relief predominates. Mountain steppe vegetation grows at the foot of the range and on the southern slopes to elevations of 700-800 m; higher up there is larch taiga. Above 1,600 m, the slopes are devoid of vegetation.
