Synia
Synia
a river in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Tiumen’ Oblast, RSFSR; a left tributary of the Ob’ that flows into the Malaia Ob’. The Synia is 217 km long—from the source of the Mokraia Synia River, 304 km—and drains an area of 13,500 sq km. It rises on the eastern slopes of the Polar Urals. It is fed predominantly by snow. The mean flow rate is about 90 cu m per sec. The river freezes in October, and the ice breaks up in May. The lower Synia is navigable. The river abounds in fish, including arctic cisco, peled, broad whitefish, common whitefish, and tugun.
