Tell Atlas

the coastal ranges of the Atlas Mountains in northern Algeria and Tunisia. The Tell Atlas, with average elevations of about 1,500 m, rises to a maximum elevation of 2,308 m, in the maritime Djurdjura Range. In the west massifs of moderate elevation alternate with cuestas and broad intermontane plains; the eastern part has a mainly undulating relief, the vestiges of volcanic activity. On the northern slopes at elevations up to 800 m are maquis thickets; higher up are forests of cork oak, holly oak, and deciduous species. Above these, up to an elevation of 1,500 m, is an Aleppo pine belt; higher still there are junipers, arborvitaes, and cedar forests.
