Webster, William H. Webster, William H. (Hedgcock)(1924– ) lawyer, government official; born in St. Louis, Mo. A St. Louis lawyer (1949–60) and United States attorney (1960–71), he was an outstanding federal court of appeals judge (1971–78). Hired to restore integrity to the FBI (1978–87), he used electronic surveillance to pursue organized crime. He followed William Casey as director of the Central Intelligence Agency (1987–91). |
