Western Siberia

 

the western part of Siberia, located between the Urals (in the west) and the Enisei River (in the east). Area, approximately 2.8 million sq km. Most of this area is occupied by the Western European Plain with its clearly defined natural zones, from the tundra in the north to the steppes in the south. The mountains of the Altai, the Salair, and the Kuznetsk Alatau rise in the southeast. Situated within the bounds of Western Siberia are Altai Krai, the Kurgan, Tiumen’, Omsk, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, and Kemerovo oblasts, and the extreme western regions of Krasnoiarsk Krai.
