Wiley Blount Rutledge


Rutledge, Wiley Blount, Jr.

(1894–1949) Supreme Court justice; born in Cloverport, Ky. He was a law professor when President Franklin D. Roosevelt named him to the U.S. Court of Appeals (1939–43), and then to the U.S. Supreme Court (1943–49), where he was known for his defense of civil liberties.
