Location:5 miles west of Loveland, off County Road G12.
Facilities:135 campsites, including a modern camping area with 63 electric sites,showers, flush toilets, and 2 youth group camps, a rustic rental cabin,playground, picnic area with shelters, multi-use trails (5 miles), boat ramp.
Activities:Camping, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, hunting.
Special Features:Named after George Wilson, former governor of Iowa, Wilson Island cameinto existence as an island sandbar around 1900. Today the parkencompasses dense cottonwood stands and has an abundance of wildlife,including deer, snow geese, and bald eagles. Immediately north ofWilson Island is the DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge (see entry innational wildlife refuges section).
