Location:8 miles southeast of Newellton on LA 608 in Tensas Parish.

Special Features:Spared destruction in 1863 by Union forces following Sherman's ordersto destroy everything not needed by Union troops, Winter Quarters wasthe only surviving plantation home out of 15 that lined the banks ofLake Saint Joseph. The restored house is furnished in the style of theperiod and includes a rare and perfectly preserved billiard table madeby the Brunswick-Balke-Collender Company around 1845. Other itemshoused there include diaries and other personal records that provide avaluable link to the Antebellum period.
