Zakher, Iakov Mikhailovich

 

(pseudonym, Mikhailov). Born Oct. 22 (Nov. 3), 1893, in Miass; died Mar. 14, 1963, in Petrodvorets. Soviet historian and professor (1927).

Zakher graduated from the department of history and philology at the University of Petrograd in 1920. His principal works are devoted to the popular movement and the struggle against the church during the Great French Revolution. Zakher was the first to make a historical study of the Enrages movement. His monograph Enragés (1930) and several articles on this subject are of great scholarly value.
