Zaporozhets, Aleksandr Vladimirovich
Born Aug. 30 (Sept. 12), 1905, in Kiev. Soviet psychologist; member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the USSR (1968).
Zaporozhets graduated from the education department at the Second Moscow State University in 1930. In 1960 he became director of the Institute of Preschool Education of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the USSR. His main research has dealt with the origin of conscious control over human behavior; with the role of practical activity and of the assimilation of social experience in the ontogenetic development of voluntary movements, with perception and thought, and with the conditions for the formation of the subject’s emotional relationship to reality. Zaporozhets has also been working on the psychological and pedagogical problems of preschool instruction and upbringing.
