Aeration of Water
Aeration of Water
the saturation of water with oxygen from the air. Water is aerated in waterworks to remove iron hydroxides, free carbonic acid, and hydrogen sulfide from the water, thus substantially improving its quality; and in biological treatment plants for sewage (in aeration tanks, aerofilters, and biofilters) to provide for the activity of microorganisms (aerobic bacteria) that perform a mineralization process on the organic substances and other contaminants in the sewage.
