Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory
Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory
an Italian scientific institution founded by G. Donati in 1872 near Florence where a small city observatory had formerly been located.
Astrophysical research has been conducted at the Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory since 1921. The observatory has a 30-cm solar tower telescope with a diffraction spectrograph and a spectroheliograph, a 30-cm reflector, a 52-cm Schmidt telescope, and a 37-cm equatorial radio telescope for studying the sun. Research at the observatory includes solar physics, stellar spectroscopy, theoretical astrophysics, and studies of variable stars, the planets, and the radiation in the upper strata of the earth’s atmosphere. The observatory’s publications include Osservazioni e memorie del Osservatorio astrofisico di Arcetri (published since 1896) and Contributi. . . (published since 1955).
