Alcaligenes xylosoxidans

a bacterial species isolated from blood, cerebrospinal fluid, bronchial washings, urine, pus, and wounds. The subspecies subsp. xylosoxidans colonizes patients with cystic fibrosis and entubated patients.

Alcaligenes xylosoxidans

An aerobic, motile, oxidase and catalase positive, nonfermentative gram-negative environmental bacillus which colonises moist areas in hospitals and the GI and respiratory tracts of patients with cystic fibrosis.
Mode of transmission Contaminated fluids (e.g., IV, haemodialysis, irrigation, disinfectants).
Clinical findings Bacteraemia, urinary tract infections, meningitis, wound infections, upper respiratory infections, occurring in immune compromised hosts, or in nosocomial outbreaks.

Alcaligenes xylosoxidans

A species that does not ferment glucose. It has been implicated rarely in lung infections in patients with cystic fibrosis and in other health care associated infections in patients with immunosuppressing or malignant illnesses. Synonym: Achromobacter xylosoxidansSee also: Alcaligenes
