autonomic failure
A condition characterised by sympathetic and often parasympathetic failure. AF can be divided into primary, secondary and drug-induced forms, with considerable overlap.Aetiology
AF may be evoked by or associated with ageing, alcohol consumption, carcinomatous autonomic neuropathy, CNS disease, dopamine beta-hydroxylase deficiency, familial dysautonomia (Riley-Day syndrome), idiopathic orthostatic hypotension, Parkinson’s disease, and Shy-Drager syndrome.
Clinical findings
Syncope, orthostatic hypotension.
