Videman, Ferdinand Ivanovich
Born Mar. 30 (Apr. 11), 1805, in Haapsalu; died Dec. 29, 1887 (Jan. 10, 1888), in St. Petersburg. Russian philologist, specialist on the FinnoUgric languages; academician of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1857).
Videman’s chief works were Essay on the Grammar of the C here mis Language (1847), Grammar of the Erzia-Mordvin Language (1865), Grammar of the Zyrian Language (1884), On the Origin and Language of the Extinct Courland Krevings (1872), Grammar of the Estonian Language (1875), and Estonian-German Dictionary (1869).
