De Paepe, César

 

Born July 12, 1842, in Oostende; died Dec. 19, 1890, in Cannes. Belgian labor leader.

De Paepe began his political career 1859–60 in the democratic societies Solidarity and The People; he also worked for a number of Belgian newspapers. In 1865 he was one of the organizers of the Brussels section of the First International. Active in the work of the First International, de Paepe gave a number of reports at its congresses. In 1877 he organized the Brabant Socialist Party. He advocated electoral reform in Belgium. In 1885 he was one of the founders of the Belgian Labor Party.
