Caltha

a genus of plants of the family Ranunculaceae (but-tercup). These are perennial herbs with cordate or reniformleaves. The perianth is simple and corolliform; it is primarilygolden-yellow. There are approximately 20 species, distributedin the temperate and arctic regions of the northern hemisphere.In the USSR there are eight or nine species. The most commonis the marsh marigold (Caltha palustris), which grows inswamps, in damp areas, and near bodies of water. The marshmarigold (double-flowered varieties) and C. polypetala are cul-tivated as ornamentals.
