CAMK2B CAMK2B A gene on chromosome 7p14.3-p14.1 that encodes the beta subunit of CAMK2, a calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase which belongs to a calcium-triggered signalling cascade. It is involved in sarcoplamic reticulum Ca2+ transport in skeletal muscle; in neurons, CAMK2 participates in promoting dendritic spine and synapse formation and in maintaining synaptic plasticity, which enables long-term potentiation (LTP) and hippocampus-dependent learning. |
