Cantabrians
Cantabrians
one of the Iberian tribes in northern Spain. According to ancient authors, they were characterized by austere customs and great bravery. They stubbornly fought the Romans during the second and first centuries B.C. and were finally subdued during the reign of Augustus in 29–19 B.C. The territory that had been settled by the Cantabrians became part of the Roman province of Hispania Citerior (or Tarraconia).
