endothelin-1

EDN1

A gene on chromosome 6p24.1 that encodes endothelin 1, a potent vasoconstrictor of the endothelin family, which is produced by vascular endothelial cells.

endothelin-1

A peptide of 21 amino acids produced by the endothelial cells of arteries that has a powerful arterial tightening (vasoconstrictor) function. It also induces MITOSIS in cells. It has a short half-life of 1–2 minutes and its production is inhibited by endothelial-derived relaxing factor and stimulated by ANGIOTENSIN II, vasopressin, and thrombin.
