Danio

fishes of the genera Danio and Brachydanio, family Cyprinidae, order Cyprinoidea. They live in stagnant and slow-running bodies of water in India, Ceylon, Burma, Sumatra, and the Malaccan peninsula. Some inhabit rice fields. Danios are small fish with elongated bodies and compressed sides; their coloring is vivid and varied. The majority have two pairs of barbels. Most common as aquarium fishes are the giant danio, leopard danio, pink danio, spotted danio, and rerio danio. or zebra fish.
